memories

The song memories is composed, performed, recorded and produced by me, Martin Janssen. The beautiful lyrics were written by Claire Worland, who also sang the background vocal and played the flute.

Lyrics:
What once were colourful
What once were colourful
And shone so bright
Are now but shadows
Are now but shadows
Dancing in a fading light

Ghosts of a distant past
Ghosts of a distant past
Play their scene over and over
I can see them if I just glance
I can see them if I just glance
Behind my shoulder

Dying glow of embers
Dying glow of embers
From a tired fire
Are the hopes and the dreams
Are the hopes and the dreams
On a funeral pyre

How can you just go?
Can't bear to see you fade
How can you just leave?
Why couldn't you just stay?

(Instrumental)

How can you just go?
Can't bear to see you fade?
How can you just leave?
Why couldn't you just stay?

The instruments used in this song include a melodica, bongo's, a 1998 Fender Telecaster, a Fender Stratocaster, a Yamaha bass guitar and accoustic guitar and a multiaward winning Trevor James flute. This all has been recorded with either a SE Electronics or Shure SM-57 microphone (and an extremely cheap MXL mic as a room mic). Everything went through an Allen & Heath mixer for the nice preamps and was recorded with Studio one.
